The Williston School District is one school system with two school buildings (Allen Brook and Williston Central). Opened in January 1997, Allen Brook School (ABS) houses students in grades Pre-K to 4.
What is a house? A "house" in the Williston School District is a grouping of four classes of students of varying grades. There are two types of house - a lower house and an upper house. The "lower houses" are for the lower grades, grades 1 through 4. The "upper houses" are for the upper grades, grades 5 through 8.
ABS has five houses: Calliope, Vista, Esprit, Discovery and Summit. Each house has two classes of 1st and 2nd grade students and two classes of 3rd and 4th grade students. The four classes have their own room and are joined by a common area called a "kiva".
To support the School District's goals for 2007-8, ABS' facilities include an indoor gymnasium, art room, library, technology room, and music room. Outside, ABS has several fields for playing, play structures and gardens.

My son is in the Calliope house. Some of Calliope's specific interests include music (even produce a CD of songs every 2 years), and the environment/outdoors (hikes to Stowe Pinnacle and Mt. Philo and annual trips to Catamount Family Center). There's great synergy between the 4 teachers and their students. I also like how tech-savvy they are (daily or weekly emails with class room updates, homework, general news, etc.).
