This hidden treasure is worth seeking out if you are environmentally conscious and care about feeding your kids great tasting local, organic food! As part of the Vermont’s Fresh Network and a certified member of the Green Restaurant Association, Magnolia is dedicated to keeping it fresh and clean. It’s in an old historic building so, you are going to have to leave your stroller in the building’s main lobby; this restaurant is down a flight of stairs. There are no changing tables in the bathrooms, also down another small flight of stairs. There are a few large booths and tables tucked into nooks and crannies so no worries about bringing your noisy flock here, you will blend in with the crowd especially on a Saturday or Sunday when it can be particularly busy (call ahead to see about the wait time). Parking Tip: We have it on good authority that on the weekends you can park in the back spots of the lot across from BankNorth off lower Main Street. ...more

The great part about this place is that you can actually get seated right away on a weekend and its commitment to the environment. I have to agree about them being clueless about kids, at least shortly after they opened. There was no available highchair for us when we went (they were all being used), and when I asked if they were able to make a bit of "french toast" for my toothless infant, they served up a piece filled with (undisclosed) large pieces of walnut (easy to pick out at least). The food also took a long time to come, our condiments came after our food had cooled, the fod was seriously underseasoned, and the server was pretty scattered. Last week, I went again, and there were still some kinks. The atmosphere is great though, and there is so much potential. I hope they work everything out!...more

I went here for brunch with a couple of friends and three 2 year olds. It was a terrible place to go with young kids. They had no clue how to deal with young kids. 1 - they only have 3 high chairs in the whole restaurant. 2- they put all 3 high chairs next to each other (I guess the 2 yr old in the middle was going to be fed by one of the other 2 yr olds). They set place settings with knives and water glasses in front of the high chairs. And they were very very slow with the food. The brunch took us about 2 hours. I believe that it has good food and it is a good place to go with adults, but definately a terrible choice with young kids....more

We found Magnolia on a Sunday morning at 10am, and with 3 kids in tow, despite a long line that looked daunting, were seated by the time we'd put our name in, parked the car, and walked back to the door. The attention to serving us expeditiously, in order to minimize wait-time with 3 kids, really pushed this over the top for us. The food was terrific, as were the huge booths, cozy environment, friendly staff, and hum of happy patrons filling the air....more

If the perennial hour-and-a-half wait at Penny Cluse is snaking a line of hungry patrons out to Church Street, remind yourself of this hidden gem. Magnolia's is quite possibly the best breakfast in Burlington, featuring a lot of creative dishes, excellent specials, local and vegetarian ingredients, and zippy service.

Best eggs Benedict I've had in a long time, and by far the best coffee in town.
