I was very disappointed in this activity since I have heard amazing things about the BCA center in general. I went with my 1 year old and 2 year old expecting some great art activities. There was only play doh, some paints, and some crayons. Since we do this stuff all the time at home, it was no big deal to them and they grew bored after 20 minutes (and after paying 12$ to attend). Also, there is no direction or participation from the staff. Only plus was that its on beautiful Church Street and like others said, you don't have to clean up the mess. Go to a local playgroup for free!! ...more

Great time ! We were visiting the area were looking for something fun to do with our two yr old. The parents must supervise and engage the children it was super relaxed, No structure, more an open play setting. we liked it, a previous poster stated that it's nothing you can't do at home , this is true. However, There is no clean up for mommies here and I was certainly willing to let my get messier here than at home.

The bottom line:

This is not an art class but This is a comfortable place for children to explore materials, socialize and be creative.

Enjoy it for what it is !

I went here today with my 5 year old, and this was nothing special. They had three stations- one for play dough, one for crayons, and one for paint. The staff person offers no direction. Since this is all stuff we have at home and I was the one making up the activities we might as well have done the activities in our home.

If you have a toddler this is a MUST DO!! I took my daughter when she was a little over a year to the Tadpole BCA Drop-in art class, a great class but she was much too young to really enjoy the different rooms. The Pollywog is the perfect fit for my now 19 month old. First off, the space is amazing--huge room located on the 3rd floor of the old firehouse station on Church Street. My daughter would spend half her time painting/drawing/creating and the other half looking out the huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The art supplies provided are a perfect fit for my daughter's age-paint, playdough, crayons and markers. There is a huge drop-cloth on the floor so parents don't need to stress about 'making a huge mess'-but I would definitely recommend wearing appropriate clothing and taking off your child's shoes when you arrive. (My daughter came home with playdough jammed in to every crevis of her sneakers). Looking forward to going back soon!...more

Great space, perfect for little artists and best of all parents/caregivers are not left picking up the mess.

I have been taking my son (3.5) here since he was about 18mths old. It is very fun and a great space to have a toddler explore messy art and then we leave the mess there. The people who run it are great and nice and helpful. They do have smocks but I always dress my kid in clothes that can get messy and take his shoes and socks off. good fun.
