Cost: Some events are free, some are paid.

Parking: Yes - Free parking behind Hero's Welcome Store

Features: Dog Friendly, Snack Stand, Restrooms

Join everyone for a month of fun on the ice in City Bay, North Hero! A skating oval is built on the ice that will be maintained until the ice melts. Bring your skates, or rent them at Hero's Welcome General Store.

There will be ice events throughout the month of February. Hot food and drink available each day.

 

Saturday, February 6th:

12:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. - General skating and snowshoeing for children and a presentation by the Atii Sled Dogs.

5:30 p.m. Christmas Tree Bonfire

Christmas tree bonfire by the pier at North Hero House. North Hero House and the Lake Champlain Islands Chamber will cater a cookout with chili, beverages on the pier.*

 

Sunday, February 7th:

11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Nordic Skating with Jamie Hess

Jamie Hess, promoter of Nordic skating in the U.S., will provide a free demo of this exciting European sport. Nordic skates will be available to try out on the ice (skates fit onto cross country ski boots).

 

Saturday, February 13th:

11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - F-F-Frozen Chosen Regatta

Design your own funky, human powered machine! All ages welcome, solo or in teams. $20 entry fee benefits the North Hero Community Hall Restoration. Plenty of parking, hot food and beverages. 6 p.m. - Valentine's Dinner Dance at North Hero House* (802-372-4732)

 

Sunday, February 14th:

11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Ice Golf Tournament*

Bring your clubs and play 9 holes of wild golf on the ice. $10 registration fee includes golf balls. Winners will receive prizes and gift certificates.

 

Saturday, February 20th:

8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Flapjack Breakfast at North Hero House*

11:00 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Kids Fishing Derby

The derby is for kids 14 and under; fishing rig will be provided. Free hot dogs for kids. Ski equipped plane rides off the ice, weather permitting.

11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. "Over and Back" Trek to Knight Island

Trek from City Bay to Knight Island on skates, skis, snowshoes or sleds. Warm up at the ranger station on Knight Island with hot beverages. 4 miles round trip.

 

Sunday, February 21st:

1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides

Horse-drawn sleigh rides in the snow with Karen Munson's team*

Hot apple pie and hot mulled cider - Allenholm Farm*

As arctic air descends on northern Vermont, folks who enjoy the outdoors gear up for another thrilling season on the frozen Lake Champlain. The first ones out there are the ice fishermen, sitting on buckets with nothing but a tip-up, or with shanties equipped with heat, tv and a wet bar, or even an entire RV.
But the good folks of North Hero, Vermont, have dreamed up a dozen more ways to enjoy playing outside on the ice!
The Great Ice in Grand Isle celebrates activities for the young and old in City Bay in North Hero. It's loads of fun.
