The Very Merry Theatre is a unique touring theater company for children and teenagers, ages 6-18.  Each year, their students learn the art of performance in after school programs, homeschool programs, residency programs and summer camps. Additionally, they produce school and community shows year round.

The centerpiece of Very Merry Theatre is a unique, 19th century style traveling theater wagon, complete with a fold-out stage, which is transported to community settings, transforming local parks into live theater venues for their performances.

Just came from the "Superheroes!" performance by MTT at the park in Richmond and loved it!
My boys are 8 and 11 so I was a bit worried they might be bored ... not to worry. They loved the songs and the entire performance was great. You can tell that the kids/actors really love theater and were really proud of what they were doing.
I also loved that they walked around the audience afterwards to thank everyone for coming. Definitely two thumbs up!...more

The shows are well written, have great music, great costumes, and the kids put their hearts and souls into their performances. We try to attend as many as possible. I love them as much as my kids!

I've been taking my children to Very Merry performances for years, and they never disappoint! Now that they're older, they participate in shows through their school and through Very Merry Camps.

The shows are lively and fun, and the most joy comes from recognizing all of the hard work, focus and dedication that the kids and community put together to pull these shows off!

There aren't many communities that have a treasure like Very Merry. It's a community-based theater that welcomes kids of all backgrounds and incomes, and in such a short amount of time (at the most 8 weeks, at the least 1 week!) pulls together complex, impressive shows that many times include heavily choreographed dancing.

I recently saw the teen performance of "West Side Story" at the 333 Theater, and was very impressed by the talent of the performers. Some of the shows with younger kids can be a little hodge-podgy, but attendees need to come into it remembering that it is what it is, and that's what makes it so special. The director of the program empowers his actors, and puts a lot of responsibility in their hands. Go to a teen show, and you'll see how much this hard work has paid off!

I highly recommend getting to shows early and getting a seat up front, as sometimes school budgets don't exactly support professional sound systems --- you'll have a better experience if you can hear everything! Also, some of the shows may not be the best for the crawling/toddler crowd, as there can be a lot of characters and dialog.

Overall, you really can't beat a free kid-based community theater event!

This organization seems to be lacking in organization. This is the second time my daughter has been disappointed. The first was at the Mall, when they was scarcely any performance at all going on. Then tonight, we were going to attend this Peter Pan show listed above, and the place was locked up tighter than a drum. I'm done trying to see their shows.
